Why Do I Have Black Triangles?
Black triangles are spaces between teeth and gums, forming the shape of a triangle. It’s common for them to make people self-conscious when they smile. They become more common as we get older, as well as in patients that smoke or have issues with gum disease.
Not only do black triangles have an aesthetic impact on your smile, but they can come with health problems as well. These spaces in the teeth are notorious for trapping food. It makes it more likely for you to develop issues with gum disease or tooth decay. They can change the way you speak, leading to you spitting when you talk.
The treatment plan for black triangles depends on the cause. If your black triangles are caused by receding gums from gum disease, you may need further treatment that Bioclear can’t provide. We’ll do a full examination to make sure you’re getting the treatment options that are needed for your case.
Treating Black Triangles With Bioclear®
If your black triangles aren’t caused by gum disease, Bioclear is an ideal solution. You may have instances where teeth are misshapen or damaged, leading to the black triangles. A common treatment previously would mean porcelain veneers or dental crowns. Both of these require the removal of some of your natural tooth structure.
Bioclear® is different because there’s no tooth structure removal needed. Bioclear actually helps to reinforce your existing tooth structure. This also makes it a reversible procedure. If you ever decide you want something more permanent, the Bioclear material can be removed
This restoration carries other benefits as well. A composite material is used for the Bioclear procedure that looks like natural tooth material. It can also be used to whiten your teeth, reducing the need for other tooth whitening solutions over time.
To get Bioclear treatment, you only need one appointment in our office, compared to multiple for other dental restorations. Bioclear uses anterior matrices to create a structure for the composite material. A mold is created on the teeth for the composite material to flow into.
The material is heated enough so that it can flow freely, but not hot enough that it’ll make you uncomfortable. It fills in the space of the mold and the spaces in your teeth that it needs to fill. When this is complete, the molds are moved and the material dries. Your dentist will shape and polish the restoration so that it blends in seamlessly with your natural teeth.
