Single Dental Implant An Overview
Do you have a missing tooth? You’re not alone. According to the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, more than 2/3 of American adults are missing at least one tooth. Whether you have lost your tooth in an accident or need to have it pulled because of gum disease or tooth decay, a dental implant could be the permanent, natural-looking replacement you’re looking for. Dr. Jacob Grapevine offers dental implant services to help patients restore the health and function of their smile.
Single tooth implants are the most natural way to replace a missing tooth. Dental implants are designed to mimic the structure of a natural tooth for optimal function and stability. Dr. Grapevine works closely with local oral surgeons to coordinate the surgical phase of the implant procedure. After the implantation, patients will receive a custom-designed restoration to complete the implant processes.
Dr. Grapevine will conduct a thorough oral health exam and bone analysis to deem if you are a good candidate for this procedure. A successful candidate for dental implants must have adequate bone structure to support the dental implant. Patients who do not have enough healthy bone tissue may receive additional treatments such as bone or tissue grafting prior to their implant.
Implant Vs. Dental Bridge
Dental bridges are another common treatment for replacing a missing tooth. Unlike the dental implant, a dental bridge compromises the integrity of adjacent healthy teeth. The adjacent teeth are prepared by removing a substantial amount of tooth material to make room for the bridge. Dental bridges may be a suitable option for some patients but may require additional maintenance in the future.
Dental implants not only preserve surrounding teeth, they actually help to stabilize and improve the health of the entire masticatory system. Whenever possible Dr. Grapevine will likely recommend using a dental implant to restore a missing tooth. Dental implants provide long-term structural support. Patients with dental implants enjoy a diet without limitations and can smile with confidence knowing their dental implant blends seamlessly with their natural smile.

Single Dental Implant What to Expect
During the dental implant process, a tiny titanium biocompatible post is placed into the jawbone at the site of the missing tooth. The dental implant will take about 3-6 months to heal. During this time the implant begins to fuse with the jawbone creating a secure bond.
Once the implant fuses with the jawbone, a custom dental crown is securely attached. Dr. Grapevine is a highly trained cosmetic dentist who uses the most modern, high-quality dental materials for all dental restorations. The dental crown will be custom designed to match the color and shape of your smile.
An abutment is attached to the top of the implant and used as an anchor to securely fit the crown to the implant. Your dental implant will look, feel, and function just like your natural teeth. Chances are no one will know you have a prosthetic tooth.
